Christy Carlson Romano is an American actress, voice actress, and singer, who, for Disney, rose to fame for her starring role as Ren Stevens in Even Stevens. She is best known for her voice work as the title character of the Disney Channel animated series Kim Possible, and made a cameo appearance as Poppy Blu in the live-action film of the same name. She also played Jennifer Stone in the Disney Channel Original Movie Cadet Kelly and voiced Yuffie in the video game, Kingdom Hearts. From February to September 2004, she played Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast. Additionally, she provided the voice of bot-fighter Trina in Big Hero 6: The Series.

Romano was born in Milford, Connecticut, the youngest of four children of Anthony and Sharon Romano. She began her career at six years old when she was cast in several national tours of Broadway shows, including Annie, The Will Rogers Follies, and The Sound of Music with Marie Osmond. Her other stage credits include Parade, Avenue Q, and White Lies.

Romano made her first feature film appearance in 1996 as a singing "Chiquita Banana" in Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You. She also made appearances in movies, like Henry Fool, Looking for an Echo, Wolvesbayne, Suicide Dolls, Mirrors 2, Prism, The Girl in the Photographs, and the TV film Cradles for Cash.

In 2004, she recorded songs for the soundtracks to Teacher's Pet: The Movie and Zenon: Z3.

Romano met writer-producer and Marine veteran Brendan Rooney in February 2011 while she was studying at Barnard College. They became engaged in November and after two years of engagement, married on December 31, 2013 at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta. They have two daughters: Isabella Victoria, born December 24th, 2016, and Sophia Elizabeth, born February 18th, 2019.

Trivia[]

  • She is one of the only Disney actresses/actors that have voiced/portrayed three iconic characters and to have voiced one from Kingdom Hearts.
  • She changed her middle name from Michelle to Carlson, after her mother's maiden name.
  • As well as acting, she has a YouTube channel called "Christy's Kitchen Throwbacks", in which she cooks meals with former child stars.
  • She was unable to audition for the part of Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries due to scheduling conflicts on Even Stevens. However, she would contribute to the soundtrack of its sequel with the song "Let's Bounce".
  • In 2022, Romano and her Kim Possible co-star Will Friedle started hosting a podcast called "I Hear Voices" that's available on her YouTube channel, as well as other major podcast providers.
